Rosthern RCMP say a car was struck by a train while crossing the tracks on Highway 312 in the town of Rosthern around 10 o’clock on Sunday morning. A 30 year old woman driving was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three girls aged 7 to 12 years old, were in the back seat at the time of the accident. They were taken to hospital with what are described as serious but not life threatening injuries. Rosthern RCMP say their investigation indicates the rail crossing equipment, including the lights and bell, appeared operational while police were on scene. The rail line is privately owned. The area was shut down to traffic for about 7 hours on Sunday while a Traffic Reconstructionst attended the scene and RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.
