Two days and many phone calls and online donations later, the final total for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon is $641,157.
Twenty-three radio stations, including CJWW, broadcast the Radiothon, with proceeds going to support the new provincial Children’s Kidney Health Program, opening the very first Hemodialysis Unit for kids.
JPCH Foundation spokesperson, Lynn Redl-Huntington, says Saskatchewan’s Children’s Hospital is the only one in the country that doesn’t offer hemodialysis, and now with the help of the donations from across the province, there will be one.
The funds will also support the creation of Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring satellite sites across the province for kids with high blood pressure due to kidney failure.
Redl-Huntington says, “It really shows the power of Saskatchewan. We are a group of people that come together regardless of whether we are together in person.”
Since the first Radiothon 19 years ago, more than $13.94-million has been raised for Saskatchewan’s Children’s Hospital.
