Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau is congratulating Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as the next President and Vice President of the United States of America.
Trudeau says Canada and the United States enjoy an extraordinary relationship one that is unique on the world stage. He says our shared geography, common interests, deep personal connections, and strong economic ties make us close friends, partners, and allies.
Trudeau adds that we will further build on this foundation to continue to keep our people safe and healthy from the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and work to advance peace and inclusion, economic prosperity, and climate action around the world.
Trudeau looks forward to working with President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, their administration, and the United States Congress to tackle the world’s greatest challenges together.
With the election win Joe Biden will become the 46th President of the United States while Kamala Harris becomes the first black, South Asian female Vice President in U.S history.
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland tweeted a statement congratulating both, but putting what she called a very personal congratulations to Kamala Harris. Freeland says Harris’ victory is an inspiration to women and girls, and to people of colour across our continent. Freeland looks forward to working with Harris to help both countries “crush this global pandemic and to crack more glass ceilings along the way”.
