The civic election has been postponed, with polls closing Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Returning Officer Scott Bastian says Friday between 9am and 8 p.m will be the date when the polls open again. He explained the reasons for delaying until Friday as not wanting residents to have to go out onto the streets again Tuesday if they are not in great condition. While respecting the Remembrance Day statutory holiday on Wednesday, and providing enough time to coordinate the logistics, people and equipment between now and Friday. Bastian says this is certainly unconventional and appreciates the frustration of many of our citizens have felt about not knowing the options they had to vote. He adds this is why they continued to encourage people to go to the polls on Monday. Bastian explains they needed to be sure they were in full compliance with the Minister’s Order in order to work through this difficult situation.
Bastian says on Monday there will be a condensed number of locations, much like advanced polls, at Cosmo Civic Centre, Lawson Civic Centre, Lakewood Civic Centre, Shaw Centre, and City Hall. Mail-in ballots will be received by the election office until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 13.
