Recovery from this weekend’s snow storm is underway in Saskatoon.
Goren Saric, Director of Roadways, Fleet and Support, says priority 1 roadways are now open for mobility across the city. Meaning at least one lane or more is open on roads including Circle Drive, College Drive, Idylwyld Drive, 8th Street, 22nd Street, bridges, overpasses and ramps. Saric says priority 2 roadways are about 40% complete, and although it’s not curb to curb there is a drive-able path. This includes rapid transit bus routes and busy streets like Clarence, Preston and Taylor. City crews will then begin to clear residential streets on a case by case basis. Saric says over the next couple days they will need to return to priority roads to clear curb to curb.
The Saskatoon Fire Department is recommending while shoveling out your sidewalk and driveway, remember to also ensure that snow hasn’t blocked your dryer or furnace vents leading to a potential for carbon monoxide build up inside your home.
Residents are encouraged to avoid travelling to City Hall, and use online services Monday. The city says Transit service and Access transit remain suspended, they recommend checking the mobile Transit app as there is a high volume of calls currently to their service centre.
Garbage collection for Monday will be rescheduled for Saturday, November 14th. The Landfill is currently open until 5 p.m. but the city recommends bringing assistance should you go there on Monday.
If you have branches or trees that have fallen, requests for service are being prioritized by whether the branches are blocking roadways and sidewalks or have the potential for injury or damage.
Trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. Call 306-975-2476 to report.
