The pandemic has taken its toll, but a spokesperson for the Kidney Foundation of Canada suggests the economic, psychological, and health-related stresses can be greater for those with kidney disease.
Joyce Van Deurzen gives the example of having to still go in to the hospital three times a week for four to five hours at a time for dialysis. That’s why this year’s fundraiser for the Saskatchewan branch of the Kidney Foundation is still happening, but this time in a virtual format. The Kidney Soiree becomes the Kidney Soiree At Home, with special guests, entertainment and an online auction.
David Ayres, the zamboni driver and emergency backup goaltender who took the Carolina Hurricanes to victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs last Febrary will be a special guest. Van Deurzen notes that Ayres received a kidney from his mom about 15 years ago. CCMA award winner, Saskatchewan’s Jess Moskaluke will be performing, as will jingle dress dancer Randi Lynn. Guests are asked to make a minimum $100 donation, for which you will receive a tax receipt and VIP access to the Soiree.
