The first pass for snow plowing Saskatoon’s residential areas is now done, but the General manager of Transportation & Construction says road crews will be back to finish things off.
Terry Schmidt notes that they are three-and-a-half days ahead of schedule for the residential work.
Crews are now focusing on the industrial areas, continuing to clean and clear the priority streets as needed, residential streets that need more attention, and problem areas like snow piles near driveways or in front of fire hydrants.
Snow removal has also begin in the Business Improvement Districts.
The City is now hiring contractors to help out with snow removal, which Schmidt explains takes different equipment than the plowing.
He expects removal in the residential areas will begin next week.
Schmidt says, “This is the first time we’ve undertaken a snow operation of this magnitude and we are truly grateful for the patience and cooperation of Saskatoon residents.”
