When it comes to energy saving policies, British Columbia comes out first and Saskatchewan comes out last. That’s the assessment of Efficient Canada at Carleton University. The organization has released its second annual, 250 page report. It benchmarks the provinces across 42 metrics, such as energy savings from public utility programs, electric vehicle registrations, building code adoption and industrial energy management. Saskatchewan ends up last because we are lagging in energy efficiency program savings and spending.
British Columbia is first for the second year running. It’s ahead in net-zero-energy-ready building codes, electrical vehicle registrations, industrial energy management systems, and low-carbon heating.
Lead author James Gaede says all provinces have room to improve noting that, on a score out of 100, BC only managed a 58. Saskatchewan’s low score was 17.
