Because of the worsening COVID-19 situation in the province, Saskatchewan’s Court of Queen’s Bench is postponing all jury trials scheduled to begin between now and the end of December.
Jury trials require participation from a broad geographic area especially while juries are being selected in addition to more people having to be physically present in the court room during the trial.
Jury trials were postponed in the spring with the outbreak of the pandemic and resumed in September at off-site locations with strict adherence to public health protocols. There have been four jury trials since resumption two months ago.
There were four more jury trials scheduled for the rest of 2020. Those individuals can re-elect trial by judge alone and the trial will proceed as scheduled or the matter will be adjourned to a date in the new year.
