Saskatchewan’s NDP leader says we need to take serious action now to make sure we don’t end up like other provinces experiencing hundreds of new cases of COVID-19 each day.
Ryan Meili believes enacting a circuit breaker for three weeks, which is basically a short term lockdown, would mean we are in a much better state by Christmas.
He says the trajectory we are on in Saskatchewan is extremely dangerous.
The NDP is also calling on the government to dip into the COVID-19 contingency fund to increase staffing in long term care and home care, because staffing was questionable before the pandemic, and is under strain right now.
Meili would like to see an independent review of the state of long term care because the system is at risk.
The NDP suggests an emergency protocol be put in place to guarantee minimum standards of care, with appropriate resident to caregiver ratios, minimum hours of daily care for each resident and a reduction of the number of residents per room.
