Around 160 Saskatchewan communities and organizations applied for COVID-19 resilience funding, according to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Municipal Relations, Sheldon Green.
Because the projects are now under review, Green can’t give any specifics on particular projects, but says the funds are for active transportation projects like walking and bicycling infrastructure, and retrofits and upgrades for things like community centres, and municipal and Indigenous-operated facilities.
Once the province has reviewed the projects, the ones that are recommended will be forwarded to the federal government for approval. This funding comes from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), which overall, will provide more than $896-million in federal funding for Saskatchewan over ten years until 2028.
On top of that, Green says there will be provincial and local investments for these projects.
