Saskatoon is going back to the movies, with the 11th annual Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival beginning Monday
Festival Director John Allison says this year, due to the pandemic, they will be limiting seating to 30 people. He says even if the government were to allow 100-150 people, they still want to limit things to make for a safe event. Masks will be required in the theatre, although snacks and popcorn will still be available. People will also be able to leave their name for contact tracing if they would like.
Movies will run this Monday to Saturday (November 23rd – 28th) and will feature films from the festival circuit. Allison says this includes many genre films, which he calls quirky, weird, and different. The opening film will be Psycho Goreman which Allison describes as really silly and fun.
The films will featured will be from across the world, including Thursday night’s double feature from Canadian director Amelia Moses. This year’s festival will feature less films than previous years, to allow for extra cleaning but there will still be over 35 feature length and short films.
Allison says even during the pandemic there will be exciting events this year like secret screenings, a punk rock night, a midnight screening on Friday night and a variety of movies all day long on Saturday. With the reduced capacity Allison recommends getting a festival pass early, and says there will be a very limited number of people that will be able to buy tickets at the door each night.
