The Northern Inter Tribal Health Authority public health officials have declared an outbreak of COVID-19 in Canoe Lake Cree First Nation. The Authority says there has been an increasing number of confirmed cases with evidence of community transmission. Contact tracing is underway.
On the community’s Facebook page a notice has been posted indicating at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Canoe Lake Cree Nation and Eagles Lake will be in a state of lockdown for an indefinite period.
Those identified as essential workers coming in and out of Canoe Lake and Eagles Lake will be considered an exception. Shift workers or employees in different communities will be allowed in and out provided a letter is presented at the gate from the employer. And travel for medical appointments will be allowed with signed confirmation slip from the Canoe Lake Health Centre.
