The goal of a new Construction Codes Act introduced in the Saskatchewan Legislature on Monday is to allow the Government Relations Ministry to develop regulations around construction standards and building accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Minister Don McMorris says the regulations would be developed in collaboration with stakeholder groups, industry and the Office of Disability Issues and the Ministry of Social Services.
The Construction Codes Act would repeal and replace the Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act.
McMorris says the CCA would harmonize construction codes and allow for the timely adoption of new editions of construction codes and it would also modernize permit and inspection programs for large industrial investments.
