The Saskatchewan Health Authority has agreed to be co-managers of a Regina care home hit with a COVID-19 outbreak and take over day to day operation of the facility.
The S-H-A will help operate the Extendicare Parkside care home, effective immediately and through January 15 with an S-H-A option to extend the agreement by 30 days based on an assessment of the situation. This allows the SHA to deploy and direct clinical and operational staff, adjust clinical and operational policies/procedures and revise care plans.
The long-term care home in south Regina has been hit with a major outbreak that has seen 11 deaths with 141 residents and 58 staff having already tested positive with many other workers self isolating.
Meanwhile, it was revealed on Wednesday that five residents from Parkside who had tested negative and were transferred over the weekend to Pioneer Village has now tested positive.
The S-H-A will also support Extendicare by conducting Infection Prevention and Control audits and safety reviews at its other facilities in Saskatchewan. (files from CKRM)
