Every year around International Human Rights Day which falls on December 10th, hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, send a letter or an email on behalf of someone they’ve never met.
That from Amnesty International members in Saskatchewan who are urging residents to participate in Write for Rights. This year Amnesty International has picked 10 cases which you can learn more about in the link with this story at cjwwradio.com.
The organization says letter writing has always been at the heart of their work and they believe that after 59 years of activism, words have power. Last year during Write for Rights they sent over 6.6 million messages from 200 countries. This year Saskatchewan’s Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate will take part in the on line event from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this evening.
The Province of Saskatchewan has proclaimed December 10th as International Human Rights Day.
