Saskatoon product Adam Beckman (pictured) and Shane Wright, a 16-year-old highly touted prospect, were two of seven players cut from Team Canada’s world junior selection camp Thursday morning, as announced by Hockey Canada.
A 2019 Minnesota N-H-L Draft pick, Beckman was the W-H-L’s leading scorer in the 2019-20 season with Spokane. With the latest round of cuts, Canada’s roster of goalies has now been set with W-H-Lers Taylor Gauthier of Prince George and Dylan Garand of Kamloops plus U-S Collegian Devon Levi set to play at the World Juniors. Hockey Canada says 34 players remain at the selection camp in Red Deer, including Saskatoon product and Kamloops forward Connor Zary plus former Blades’ star forward Kirby Dach. Assistant coach and Saskatoon Blades’ head coach Mitch Love and the rest of the Hockey Canada brass need to get that 34-player number down to 25 by the time they leave for the Edmonton bubble on Sunday. Seven players released from selection camp
RED DEER, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday that seven players have been released from Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp.
The following players have been released:
- Goaltenders Brett Brochu (Belle River, Ont./London, OHL) and Tristan Lennox (Cambridge, Ont./Saginaw, OHL)
- Forwards Adam Beckman (Saskatoon, Sask./Spokane, WHL), Tyson Foerster (Alliston, Ont./Barrie, OHL), Hendrix Lapierre (Gatineau, Que./Chicoutimi, QMJHL), Cole Schwindt (Breslau, Ont./Mississauga, OHL) and Shane Wright (Burlington, Ont./Kingston, OHL)
With today’s releases, 34 players remain at Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp, which continues until Dec. 13.
