While there are fewer travellers because of the pandemic restrictions, Canadian Border Services Agency officers in the Prairie Region still processed over 440,000 commercial trucks, 414,000 air shipments and over 5.8-million courier shipments in the first ten months of the year.
The CBSA is highlighting a few incidents from 2020, including 11 handguns, a restricted rifle, three firearm silencers, and five prohibited magazines being seized at Saskatchewan’s North Portal entry back in February with help from Detector Dog Chase. Two travellers face charges in connection to this incident.
Over the summer, 18 firearms in total were found from four separate incidents at North Portal. And last January, the CBSA Criminal Investigations Section charged 34 year old Gurpreet Singh for allegedly impersonating registered charities by falsifying job offer letters and then selling them to people trying to either get into Canada or remain here.
