Health Canada now has all the data they need ahead of approval of the Moderna vaccine. Federal health minister Patty Hajdu says a decision will come very soon but added that she can’t speak for the regulators because they are independent from the government but she expects them to have information for Canadian citizens in the very near future. Even as COVID-9 vaccines start rolling in to Canada, health officials are worried about the months to come. Chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the country remains on a trajectory toward higher infection numbers over the next 2 months. She says we must celebrate holidays differently this year and carry on with the public health practices through the coming weeks and months.
With Canada and the world now 3/4 of a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government says it continues to be proactive. Public safety minister Bill Blair says that includes suspending flight from the U.K, where a new strain of the virus has been discovered.
He says the government is reviewing additional measures that may be required. Enhanced screening has also been implemented at all Canadian airports an at all ports of entry for travellers who may be arriving from the United Kingdom. The new variant has not been detected in Canada as yet. (GX94)
