LutherCare Communities says there are currently no active resident COVID-19 cases at Luther Special Care Home. All residents were classified as recovered as of December 20th. Twenty-six staff of the home have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak was declared, with not all of those instances being a result of contracting the illness at work. In all, nine residents of Luther Special Care Home have passed away since the outbreak was declared on November 17th.
A second unit of the home was placed in Suspect Outbreak on December 8th after one staff member of the home tested positive for COVID-19. LutherCare says that all residents on the unit have tested negative and none were deemed a close contact.
LutherCare Communities asked the Saskatchewan Health Authority that consideration be given for residents and staff of Luther Special Care Home to be first priority for COVID-19 vaccination in Saskatoon. However, the province has indicated that in Saskatoon, their long term care staff and residents would not be on the first priority list.
Luther Tower was declared in Confirmed Outbreak on December 4th. The five tenants who were affected have now recovered. As per Public Health’s directive, Luther Tower will remain in Confirmed Outbreak until at least December 25th.
A group home was placed on Suspect Outbreak on December 16th after one staff member of the home tested positive for COVID-19.
Visitation throughout all group homes are restricted to compassionate reasons including end of life and supportive care visits.
