Shellbrook and Ahtahkakoop RCMP say a 39 year old woman has died after a head-on accident between a car and an SUV on Highway 55 about five kilometres north of Canwood. The woman was driving the car which also had two other occupants: a 17 year old boy and a 9 year old girl. Both were taken to hospital. The teen had minor injuries, the girl had serious but not life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV, a 78 year old man, and two women, aged 56 and 76, suffered what are reported to be minor injuries.

RCMP say neither alcohol or drugs are considered to be factors in the crash. Highway 55 was blocked and traffic was re-routed for about five hours. Traffic resumed around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
