The Moderna vaccine for COVID-19 is to arrive today in Saskatchewan. The Province announced, after Health Canada approved the vaccine last week, that Saskatchewan would received 4,900 doses. Unlike the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine, while requiring refrigeration, doesn’t have to be refrigerated at ultra-cold temperatures. The Moderna vaccine will be targeted at long term care and personal care home residents and staff, as well as front-line health care workers most at risk of exposure and residents 80 years or older. In addition, all residents 50 years and older living in northern and remote communities will get the Moderna vaccine. Phase 2 of vaccine delivery is tentatively slated for April 2021 and it will involve widespread vaccination.
