The two day total for Friday and Saturday shows 485 new cases and 479 recoveries from COVID-19 in the province, bringing the active case count to 2,712. Three more people have died, two seniors in the the 80 plus age group, one each from Saskatoon and Regina and one person in their 50’s was from the North Central part of the province.
To date, 158 people have died after testing positive for COVID-19, since the pandemic began in the province. There have been a total of 15,845 reported cases and 12,975 recoveries. Currently there are 160 people in hospital with 33 people in intensive care. The 7 day average of new cases is currently at 172
On the vaccine front, as of Saturday, 3722 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have been provided to health care workers in Regina as part of the initial pilot and in Saskatoon as part of Phase 1. The province says with the arrival of 4,900 doses of Moderna vaccine, the Far North Central and Far North West regions will start vaccinating priority populations next week.
The breakdown of the new cases are as follows. On January 1, there were 275 new cases and on January 2, there were 210 new cases. The new cases are located in the Far North West (13), Far North Central (1), Far North East (90), North West (51), North Central (68), North East (18), Saskatoon (75), Central West (3), Central East (32), Regina (81), South Central (18) and South East (24) zones. Eleven new cases have pending residence information. Ten Saskatchewan residents tested out-of-province have been added to the case counts in the Far North East (1), North Central (1), North West (7), and Regina (1) counts. Thirty-one previously reported cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the Far North East (3), North West (1), and North Central (27) zones.
There were 2,735 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on December 31, 2020 and 2,588 on January 1, 2021.
To date, 432,054 COVID-19 tests have been processed in Saskatchewan. As of December 29, 2020 when other provincial and national numbers were available, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 256,659 people tested per million population. The national rate was 366,464 people tested per million population.
