Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated Tuesday that the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit is not for travelers quarantining when they return to Canada from holiday. He stresses this benefit was created to provide sick leave to people who needed it and otherwise wouldn’t have sick leave from an employer.

“It is not there to pay for someone’s post-vacation quarantine.”

The Prime Minister also stated very clearly that no one should be vacationing abroad right now. Trudeau says if you still decide to travel at your own risk you will need to show a negative COVID-19 test before you return and you must self-isolate for two weeks when you get back. The requirements for a negative COVID-19 test will start Thursday.

Prime Minister Trudeau says officials are also reviewing travelers isolation plans and if those plans are not deemed adequate, the travelers will have to quarantine in a federal facility.

The Prime Minister also says there have already been half a million doses of vaccine, either Pfizer or Moderna, delivered to provinces and territories. Justin Trudeau says the country is on track to have over a million by the end of January and by September Canada will have enough doses to provide a COVID-19 vaccination to any Canadian who wants one.
