Members of the Regina Police Service have arrested and charged a man injured in an officer involved shooting in Saskatoon on December 23rd.
The 27 year old man is charged with 2 counts of Assaulting a Police Officer and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public. Police allege the accused had a knife and has also been charged with two other weapon-related offences that are not connected to the officer involved shooting.
At 5:50 p.m. on December 23rd, Saskatoon police were called to a domestic dispute in the 11-hundred block of Avenue W North.
The police stated that the situation spilled out into the parking lot and the officer’s gun was discharged outside the apartment building.
Police Superintendant Randy Huisman said in the day following the shooting that the Saskatoon Police Service put the wheels in motion to abide by proposed legislation changes in regards to police oversight. Although it is not yet law, the Saskatoon Police Service has asked the Regina Police Service to investigate and asked the province to appoint investigation observers.
The Regina Police Service continues to investigate. 27 year old Saskatoon man, Tikkanen Wayne Lee appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.
