We can say goodbye to the warmer than average temperatures much of Saskatchewan has experienced in the past seven weeks or so.
Environment Canada is forecasting below normal temperatures by Sunday.
Meteorologist Terri Lang says there may be some extreme cold warnings because of the windchill values and the bitter cold will last for a few days before warming up a bit, unfortunately not to the mild temperatures we have been experiencing.
The temperatures had been about seven degrees above normal on average, but when it warms up after the cold spell, it will only warm up to what is average for this time of year, which in the Saskatoon area is around -11 for a high and overnight lows in the -22 range.
Lang says Saskatchewan people are used to adjusting to the colder temperatures each winter, but this year with the long stretch of warmer than usual weather, it may be a shock to the system.
Lang explains that for a number of weeks, Saskatchewan has been on the warm side of a jet stream, but it has moved further south and now we are on the cold side.
