Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is hinting stronger measures on travelers may be on the horizon.
The Prime Minister says when it comes to protecting Canadians, nothing is off the table. He says they won’t hesitate to take tougher measures if and when they are needed. He says to expect an announcement in days. Whatever the measures, they would be in addition to the current rules including mandatory quarantine, and demanding a negative test 72 hours before boarding a flight to Canada.
As to the status of vaccines, Trudeau says discussions with suppliers continues. He says he has spoken with executives at both Pfizer and Moderna and has been assured that we are on track to receive our full doses of vaccines in the time-lines provided.
There is also a new aid package for businesses hit by the pandemic. Ottawa is partnering with some financial institutions for something called the “Highly Effective Sectors Credit Availability Program.” It means the hardest hit businesses will be able to receive low interest loans of up to one million dollars. The loans are completely backed by the federal government and can be used for everything from rent to utilities and payroll.
Details on the loans, including accessing them, will be released later on Tuesday
