The official opposition is raising concerns about Saskatchewan’s agriculture and drinking water supplies being polluted because of a decision last year by the Alberta government of Jason Kenney. The regulations that were scrapped were put in place in 1976, to protect large stretches of the Rocky Mountains and the eastern slopes, from coal mining. With these regulation removed there is concern here about contamination of both the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers.
Erika Ritchie, Official Opposition Critic for the Environment, has written to Environment Minister Warren Kaeding and Water Security Agency Minister Fred Bradshaw urging them to put pressure on the Government of Alberta to restore protections against coal mining.
