Glen Kelsey and his wife Connie believe that Glen is alive today because of the quick work of first responders at Candle Lake and the use of an AED.
Glen says he remembers his near death experience because of all the help he received from Parkland Ambulance, the doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert and Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, and the three volunteer local responders that were the first on scene. He explains that in smaller communities, they rely on these volunteers because it may take awhile before an ambulance can arrive.
Glen’s wife Connie says after she called 911 on January 16th she was relieved to see help coming through the door in a matter of a few minutes. One of the first responders, Karen Mack, says in a small community you often know the people you are caring for, but you have to put that out of your mind and get down to business.
Parkland Ambulance is highlighting this good news during Heart Month to show the importance of volunteer first responders and having an AED machine.
