Statistics Canada says retail sales reached $55.4 billion in November. That was an increase of 4.2 per cent from the month before. It was the sixth consecutive year-over-year increase in sales. There were record sales of home furniture, furnishings, housewares, appliances, and electronics; sales of those items rose nearly 19 per cent.

Food sales were up nearly 8 per cent. Clothing sales dropped 17 per cent. Audio and video recordings and game software fell off about 25 per cent. Automotive and household fuels were also down about 25 per cent.

The big winner was the sale of cannabis products which rose a whopping 91 per cent.
