The Saskatchewan Medical Association is calling on the provincial government to re-evaluate its vaccination delivery plan which was unveiled this week.
SMA President Dr. Barb Konstantynowicz says the plan mentions previously specified timelines for health workers but lacks any further detail regarding vaccination timelines and health care workers, including physicians, are not mentioned in subsequent timelines.
She says patients who require care from a physician or treatment in a health care facility need a clear understanding that they will be safe because their care provider has been vaccinated. Dr. Konstantynowicz also says vaccination planning isn’t just about vaccinating those at highest risk of sever outcomes from COVID-19 but of protecting health system capacity by vaccinating health care workers as soon as possible so they aren’t taken out of the workforce by a COVID-19 infection.
