SaskPower is reminding everyone about the dangers of a downed power line. Extreme weather, fallen branches, farming and job site incidents, and vehicle collisions are some of the common causes of damage to lines. The company says, if you spot a downed line: Stay back about the length of a city bus, call SaskPower or 9-1-1, and keep others in the immediate area at a safe distance.
Those involved in trimming trees, doing renovations or working on a roof are also being advised to keep themselves and their tools at least three metres away from power lines.
Shawn Schmidt, Vice-President, Distribution and Customer Service says, over the past five years, they have received an average of over 430 reports of damaged infrastructure every year.
