Two workplace injuries in Saskatchewan have resulted in fines and surcharges nearing a million dollars.
On February 9th, EVRAZ INC. of Ottawa pleaded guilty in Regina Provincial Court to violating Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, for two separate incidents.
On January 24, 2019, at the EVRAZ plant in Regina, a worker was rolling a pipe and slipped on ice and snow. The individual was pinned between the pipe and a steel plate of a conveyor, resulting in serious injuries.
In a separate incident on February 6, 2019, a worker was trying to put out a grease fire on a machine, when it moved, causing a serious injury.
The company was fined a total of over $667 thousand and surcharges of over $267 thousand.
