A report by city administration says over $3 million in property taxes are currently owed to the city of Saskatoon.
On Monday city council received and passed a report that will allow administration to proceed with tax collections. The majority of the outstanding liens come from 403 single family detached homes still owing $ 2,567,686 in property taxes. One hundred thirteen condos in the city owe over $400,000, while one mixed retail space with offices owes over $76,000 alone.
Property owners will now receive a notification by mail of interest set out on the title of the property , they have six months to contest the city’s claim. The city then gives six months following the service of notices, and if still not paid, or proving an effort or plan to do so the city will make a final application for title of any properties which arrears have not been cleared.
A total of 623 properties owe a combined $3,697,974 in the city.
