The provincial government is applauding the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision to not hear the Good Spirit School Division’s appeal in the Theodore School dispute.
After a years-long battle in court, Provincial Attorney General Gord Wyant hopes the Good Spirit School Division and Theodore School can put tension behind them and work together.
Wyant says now that the decision has been resolved, school divisions can get back to doing what they do best – education Saskatchewan’s children.
Back in 2017, a Yorkton Queen’s Bench judge ruled that Catholic schools could not longer receive funding for non-catholic students and then last year, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal overturned that ruling.
It means provincial funding can continue the way it is, and students can choose to go to a Catholic school even if they aren’t Catholic.
