It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..

       March may be coming in as a “lamb”, weather-wise locally…but, it is coming in as a lion for sports. The N-H-L and the N-B-A are more than a month into their seasons, Major League Baseball has started spring training, the Calgary curling bubble held tight for the Scotties with the Tim Horton’s Brier next up on Friday and the W-H-L getting going over the weekend with the East Division “Dubble” less than two weeks away from beginning!

       As far as I was concerned, Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday went nearly as perfect as could be hoped for. My second-favourite Canadian-based N-H-L team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, dominated my second most-detested team, the Oilers right in Edmonton. Then, my all-time favourite N-H-L team, the Winnipeg Jets, rode the goaltending of the reigning Vezina Trophy winner and did just enough on offence to beat my most hated team, the Montreal Canadiens! I slept well Saturday into Sunday!

       By the way, I don’t care about shots on goal or territorial play. Check out the summaries and box scores…most of the close, one or two-goal games are captured by the team with fewer shots, but receive superior netminding! It’s why I believe a goaltender should be given more consideration for the Hart Trophy as the N-H-L’s regular-season M-V-P!

       And, congratulations to the Sherry Anderson foursome for their efforts at the Scotties. Sure, the four straight losses in the championship round is tough to take…but, making it to the final eight is still worthy of consideration and appreciation. That week-to-10 days of curling is a grind!
