There are now four COVID-19 vaccines available in Canada with the approval of Jonson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government has an agreement for 10-million doses of this new vaccine, which only needs one dose and it can be stored and transported at regular, refrigerated temperatures.
He adds that more Pfizer vaccines are being shipped to Canada quicker than expected, explaining that another 3.5-million doses were to be shipped by this summer, but that has been accelerated, with 1-and-a-half million doses to arrive this month, then another million in both April and May.
That means the federal government will be surpassing its promise of 6-million doses of vaccine in Canada by the end of March, and will now reach 8-million.
Trudeau adds that from Pfizer alone, there will be another 12.8-million doses from April to June.
Along with the four vaccines, Janssen, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Pfizer, Canada also has agreements with companies on three other potential vaccines.
