A solid start and a good finish allowed the Saskatoon Blades to overcome the “visiting” Regina Pats 6-3 Sunday.
The Bridge City Bunch, who were the designated home team…despite playing the Pats in their home Brandt Centre rink…out-shot Regina 18-9 and led 3-1 after the first period. But, the Pats battled back to tie the score at 3-3 with less than nine minutes remaining in the third period…only to have the Blue and Gold score three unanswered goals to close out a victory for the second consecutive day.
Newcomer Blake Stevenson (pictured) endeared himself to the Blades and their fans Sunday, scoring twice and adding two assists. His second goal snapped the 3-3 tie with 7:25 left in the final frame. Stevenson’s linemates, Evan Patrician and Alex Morozoff, also found the back of the Regina net while captain Chase Wouters and Tristen Robins scored as well. Morozoff chipped in two helpers as well. Carson Denomie tallied twice for the Pats and assisted on a power play goal by 15-year-old phenom Connor Bedard that temporarily knotted the score at 3-3.
Saskatoon out-shot Regina 34-30 as they improved to 2-0-0 to start the “Dubble” schedule while the Pats fell to 0-2-0. The Blades are off until Wednesday when they are the designated home team against the Winnipeg ICE.
