The NDP is accusing Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party of dragging their feet on increasing healthcare resources at a time when that simply shouldn’t be the case.

Health Critic Vicki Mowat wants to know when more staff are coming to the front lines, saying the Premier campaigned on hiring more than 300 continuing care aides while increasing resources.

Mowat was joined by leaders in the health sector including the president of SEIU-West demanding that the government add more staff to the front lines.

Barb Cape says this was a problem long before the pandemic. She says people are worn out and she says its not just because of the pandemic. She says its an issue that’s been going on for a decade or more.

Mowat thinks now is the time to establish a committee that will look into what has been a problem for years.
She says it could examine health labour force needs, how they align with training, and how to retain workers in hard-to-recruit positions.

Mowat says it is time to take the politics out of healthcare and do what is needed to help those on the front-line that have been going above and beyond for months.
