Team Canada junior forward Peyton Krebs finished off a 2-on-1 break just 36 seconds into overtime, lifting the Winnipeg ICE to a 2-1 victory over the Saskatoon Blades Wednesday at the W-H-L’s East Division “Dubble” in Regina.
The two rivals exchanged first period goals 79 seconds apart…otherwise there was a lot of stifling defensive play from both sides. And, when there was a breakdown, goaltenders Koen MacInnes of the Bridge City Bunch and Gage Alexander for Winnipeg were solid. Both were making their first appearances in the Regina hub with MacInnes stopping 26 shots and Alexander blocking 23 drives. Owen Pedersen opened the scoring on behalf of the ICE on a power play before Colton Dach converted Kyle Crnkovic’s centring feed to tie the contest…a 1-1 score that last the final 47:28 of regulation time. Winnipeg improves to 2-1-0 in the “Dubble” while the Blue and Gold are 2-0-1…the same as the Prince Albert Raiders, whom the Blades face in their next game Friday night.
