The Angus Reid Institute says half of the voting public is ready for a change in Canadian politics but most don’t want an election before September. And they still give the Liberals a slight edge in voter intention. Reid says, with COVID-19 vaccinations now underway, the notion of a spring election is overwhelmingly unpopular. 63 per cent say summer is also too soon. Two-thirds say an election between September and December would be appropriate. The pollster says, the priority for the Conservative Party will be figuring out how to endear their leader to a broader subsection of the population. Just 29 per cent of Canadians have a favourable view of Erin O’Toole, while positive perceptions of Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh hover in the mid 40’s.

In Saskatchewan, a particularly large segment of the population wants to show the Liberals the door at 73 per cent; that’s the highest in the nation, followed closely by Alberta at 71 per cent.

Voter intention is largest in this province for the Conservatives at 56 per cent. The Tories are least popular in Quebec at only 17 per cent. That’s the percentage the Liberals would get in Saskatchewan. The NDP could expect to capture 15 per cent of the votes here with the green Party at 2 per cent. Interestingly, 10 per cent here would vote for another party altogether. 11 per cent feel the same way in Alberta. These are the only two provinces in the country with double digits in that category.
