The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations and the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission have signed a strategic alliance to combat racism against First Nations people.
The agreement signed by FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron and Chief Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, David Arnot, recognizes the need to work together to promote the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and the Murdered and Missing Women and Girls Calls to Justice.
The signed document also notes that both the FSIN and the SHRC recognize the significance of treaty rights, Indigenous rights and human rights.
Some of the statistics from the Canadian Human Rights Commission are that 48 per cent of children in foster care across Canada are Indigenous, 25 per cent of the federal prison population is Indigenous and 99 First Nations communities have had a boil water advisory for more than a year.
