Saskatoon Police report there were two separate incidents where they had to deploy Conducted Energy Weapons on Saturday.

Police say at 6:30 p.m they responded to the 2200 Block of 22nd Street West, due to a report of a woman with a handgun. Upon arriving they say a woman was uncooperative with their demands and when deploying the conducted energy weapon, it was ineffective. She was eventually taken into custody and faces charges of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Carry concealed weapon, and Assaulting a Police Officer.

The second occurred at around 10:30 p.m., when officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at a residence in the 100 block of 25th Street West. Once inside officers located a 29 year-old man who was threatening to harm himself with a knife. After attempts where made to have him drop the knife, he allegedly refused to comply at which point one of the officers deployed their CEW successfully. The man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Both incidents will be reviewed in accordance with Saskatoon Police Service policy.
