The goal of the Adam Herold Legacy Foundation’s Hockey and Leadership Development program is a simply one, building better hockey players but more importantly support strong community minded leaders, just like Adam.

That from Russell Herold, father of Adam, who says the world needs more leaders and we can all do our part whether it be big or small to make out communities better.

Adam was the youngest player killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus accident. The program is part of his legacy, and Russell Herold says Adam was always trying to make his community a better place. Herold says Adam inspired them, by being a humble and hard-working kid, to create the program and give back to Saskatchewan communities.

Herold says they bring in top trainers for hockey skills, off-ice fitness and instructors for team building as well as leadership. He suggests leadership is a big part of their camps and what sets them aside is they are not just a hockey school, but offer a full range of one ice and off ice team building and leadership.

The foundation will select two communities to host the camps for the 2021-22 season, each will get three days of hockey leadership and development.

The Foundation held its first camps just months after the Humboldt bus accident tragedy. To date camps have taken place in Balcarres, Gravelbourg, Alameda, Torquay, Preeceville, Radville, Naicam and Maple Creek.

Communities supply ice and classroom facilities, coordinate registration and provide others support, while the Foundation supplies highly qualified coaches, instructors and other resources. Herold says it can be a big commitment for some of the instructors, and they are paid through the foundation.
