The provincial government has decided to cap fees on food delivery charges, beginning on Sunday and continuing through the end of April.
Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison says the restaurant sector has been especially challenged by the pandemic, and this is one way to support this sector and the jobs it provides. Delivery fees will be capped at 18 per cent of a customer’s pre-tax order if the food delivery service provider completes the delivery and 10 per cent if it’s a pick up order. The cap applies to third-party delivery providers that serve more than 50 restaurants across the province.
Hospitality Saskatchewan President and CEO Jim Bence says every little bit of help to an industry that has been beleaguered by the pandemic is appreciative, especially in Regina where bars and restaurants are being told to close down again. Saskatchewan joins Ontario and BC in establishing a cap.
