Move over Tim Cheveldae, Nolan Maier (pictured) now has your former career wins by a Saskatoon Blades’ goaltender all to himself!
The 20-year-old Yorkton product stopped 29 shots Wednesday for his 86th career victory as the Bridge City Bunch nipped the Winnipeg ICE 3-2. Maier has won all seven starts he has made in the W-H-L’s East Division “Dubble.” He even chipped in an assist as the Blue and Gold stretched their winning streak to seven games, their overall record to 9-0-1 and avenged that “1” in their record…a 2-1 overtime loss to Winnipeg back on March 17. Earning 19 out of a possible 20 points from their first 10 games of the season is a continuous mark for the Blades…so long as they keep on winning as they have.
The ICE opened and finished the scoring, but saw their record dip to 6-4-0 as Brandon Lisowsky, Kyle Crnkovic and Colton Dach provided the Blades with enough offence to move four points ahead of Brandon atop the East Division standings.
