Brent Jacobs of the International CCS Knowledge Centre calls it, a milestone. SaskPower’s ground-breaking Boundary Dam 3 Carbon Capture and Storage facility has captured and prevented four million tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

He says this amount of carbon mitigation has the equivalent emissions impact of taking about 865,000 cars off the road for a year. But, he says it also underscores the value and large-scale impact of being tenacious in application-based learning and advancements.

Jacobs says he is part of the team at the International CCS Knowledge Centre where they work to advance the use of large-scale carbon capture and storage as a means of greatly reducing global greenhouse gasses. He says, what is particularly unique about this work is that they do this by sharing their experience and acquired knowledge.

SaskPower’s Boundary Dam 3 CCS Facility is located near Estevan. it is the world’s first fully-integrated and full-chain carbon capture and storage facility on a coal-fired power plant.
