A 2019 N-H-L first round draft pick of the Vegas Golden Knights, Peyton Krebs showed the Saskatoon Blades why he is likely the best player in the W-H-L’s East Division “Dubble” as he excelled at both ends of the rink in propelling the Winnipeg ICE to a 3-2 overtime victory Tuesday.

With the ICE minus four veteran defencemen due to injury, the 20-year-old Okotoks, Alberta, product dropped back from centre to take a regular turn on the Winnipeg blue-line. He also contributed offensively, opening the game scoring on a first period power play and setting up Owen Pedersen for the extra time winner…again on a man advantage. As a result, the ICE are on a three-game winning streak as they improved their record to 9-4-0 while the Bridge City Bunch dropped to 9-2-2 and are winless in their last three outings. The Blue and Gold never led in the game…but had their chances to do so, especially in the third period. Tristen Robins and Evan Patrician scored the Saskatoon goals to even the score at 2-2 before the third frame was two minutes old. Kyle Crnkovic was denied by overage Winnipeg goaltender Carl Stankowski on a penalty shot and the Blades failed to connect on three power play opportunities in the third period, including a brief stint of 5-on-3. The ICE out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 32-29 in winning for the second time in O-T in three meetings with the Blue and Gold in the Regina Hub. The Blades’ next action is Thursday when they come up against the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders…a 6 o’clock start with the broadcast on 98-COOL at 5:30.
