Finance minister Donna Harpauer will present a new provincial budget today [tues] on this opening day of the spring session of the Legislature.

It is a 30-day session that will be compacted. As a result, MLA’s will gather for a special Saturday sitting on the 10th.

Government House leader Jeremy Harrison says it’s so they can get a full 30 days of sessions in, to make up for not sitting yesterday. However, In 2018 and 2019 the spring session was 40 days or more.

The SGEU would like to see the provincial budget being released this afternoon include an investment in working people and frontline workers.
Acting President Roseann Strelezki says from the lack of wage top-ups for healthcare workers to giving workers at gas stations and grocery stores Canada’s lowest minimum wage, the government has left frontline workers to fend for themselves.

Along with these two priorities, the SGEU is advocating for ending for-profit long term care, having multi-year funding in place for community-based organizations so they know where they stand financially, strengthening mental health and addictions services, and raising Saskatchewan’s minimum wage to $15 per hour.
