If you notice the College Building at the University of Saskatchewan lit up in green this evening it is for Green Shirt Day. April 7th is recognized as Green Shirt Day in honour of Logan Boulet, the 21 year old Humboldt Bronco, who signed his organ donation card, and was one of 16 who died when a semi collided with his team bus. Landmarks across Canada will feature green lighting in April.

The Government of Saskatchewan says the province’s organ donation rate has almost doubled since 2016-17 when there were 14 deceased organ donations per year to 25 in 2020-21. The Health Ministry says the province’s organ donation rate has risen for three consecutive years and is now comparable to the Canadian average.

April is National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness month. The province’s awareness campaign features Monica Goulet, a Metis woman from Saskatchewan who received a donated kidney from her nephew in Lac La Ronge, Jim Searson.
